| The Kherson region is situated in the South
of Ukraine. In the East it is conterminous with Zaporozye region, in the
South with the Crimea, in the North and West with Dnepropetrovsk and Nicolayev
regions. The territory of Kherson region is situated in the Black Sea lowland,
inthe steppe zone, on both sides of the lower reaches of the river Dnieper.
The frontiers of Kherson region are washed by Black and Azov seas and Sivash
("Rotten Sea").
The area of the region is 28.5 thousand sq.km. (4.7% of the Ukraine).
Population - 1194.4 thousand, in cities - 716.1 thousand (59.9%), rural
- 478,3 thousand (40.1%); density of population is 41.9 per 1 sq.km; national
strukture: Ukrainians (78.3%), Russians (18.1%), Belorussians (1%), Jews
(1%) and others (1.6%).
