External trade volume of Kherson Region in 1998 was equal to $306.1 million, including export volume equal to $183.1 million, and import volume equal to $123 million. The region steadily maintains a positive external trade balance.
 
Among the major export items are: Floating docks & ships (51.1%), Cereal crops (15.1%), Oil seeds (11.3%), Electrical engines & mechanical machinery (3.3%), meat and by-products (1.5%), Sugar & related products (1.4%), Ferrous metals & metal products – 5.2%.

 Major imports items are: oil and oil products – 60.8%, cotton – 9.2%, chemical products – 6.7%, electrical engines and mechanical machinery – 6.3%, ferrous metals & metal products – 2.6%.
 Kherson region maintains external economic relations with 70 foreign countries. Major trade partners are Russia, Belarus , Kaxakhstan, Denmark, Turkey, Italy, Israel, Germany.

 In 1998 direct investments into the Kherson region amounted to $3 970 100. Main investments come from Russia – 23,4% and Chekh Republic – 21,8%. During the year of 1999 about $936 000 were invested in Food industry and $830 000 into Skadovsk city – “Dzharylgach”.
